About
Data Center Technology Lab is a one-person site about liquid cooling in data centers, written for people who read spec sheets and want to know what the numbers actually say.
Who runs it
I’m Heonsu Nam. I run a small career-education business in South Korea and write this site on the side. I’m not a mechanical engineer, and I don’t work for a cooling vendor. What I can do is read the standards and data sheets carefully, rerun the arithmetic, and point out where two published numbers are describing different things.
What you’ll find here
Each article takes one question, such as why air cooling runs out at a certain rack density, what a CDU rating really covers, or how PUE treats server fans, and works through it with the source documents open. Tables and calculations are shown in full so you can check them.
How articles are made
I use AI tools to help with research and first drafts. I choose every topic, open the primary sources (ASHRAE, Open Compute Project, Uptime Institute, vendor data sheets), check each number and calculation against them, and edit every article before it goes up. Sources are listed at the end of each article. If I can’t confirm a figure, I either say so in the text or leave it out.
What this site is not
This is not engineering advice. Any real facility decision needs a qualified engineer and a site-specific review. The site shows Google ads, but it has no sponsored posts and no affiliate links, and no vendor pays for coverage.
